2011: What a Year!
One of the best things about having a blog is that it’s really easy to look back on the past year.
2010 was pretty awesome, and I wondered how 2011 could top it. (Last year’s look back.)
There were some really low lows this year, but there were plenty of high points, too.

I Went to L'Accademia di Vino and Learned Nothing...
So I’m going to do one of those year-end posts, too, but for now, I think we can all agree food is more interesting, yes?
Yes.
Yesterday I got out of work at 3 (yes!) for the holiday weekend, and I skedaddled home and got into my running clothes before I could get comfortable on my couch. It was pretty cold outside walking back and forth to work, but once I got into some running tights and...

A Flashback
Yesterday, as I ran to pick up lunch, I had a flashback to me, a few years ago.
I started my first job in the city in June 2008, and I actually worked just around the corner from where I’m working now.
I walked into Tasty Cafe yesterday, and I realized I’d been there before—after an interview for that job nearly four years ago. I remembered getting a roll with butter and a...

December Challenge Update
You might remember a few weeks ago I proposed that I was doing my own take on the Well + Good/Fitist Challenge.
So where I am with it? My updates below in bold. Where possible, I’ve added in free or inexpensive ways you can get similar workouts, something I should have done the first time around.

Anonymous asked: Do you remember the exact moment when you realized it was time to start changing your life and working toward losing weight? I'm sure you've answered this before, but I'm looking for inspiration and your answer to that question may be exactly what I need to help myself and get started. Happy holidays!
Anonymous asked: You are the most irrelevant woman on the internet. You lost three and a half stone. I lost three and a half stone but I didn't go on about it to the whole fucking world you cunt. Home for the Holidays
I highly recommend starting a new job a month before Christmas.
Sure, it gets a little stressful getting adjusted to a new routine and sleep schedule while trying to fit in lots of Christmas parties and going out Christmas online shopping, but the prize of two four-day weekends in a row at the end of it is well worth it.
As is having coworkers in the holiday spirit.
I worked all day today and...

Me, Tina and Dr. Oz
So today I made my debut on national television. (Well, other than waving/cheering for Caitlin when she was on The Today Show.)
Things I Learned From My First (Real) Experience on National TV:
Dr. Oz is a lovely man. He shook everyone’s hands before we went on for my segment. I don’t watch his show all the time, but I still geeked out quite a bit shaking his hand.
Pleats?...

So, a few weeks ago, I taped a Dr. Oz segment that airs today. They gave away a SHIT TON of stuff (including a VitaMix, my new love), and they’re giving more away online today. You have to register (but can use Facebook Connect), but it’s worth it. I promise.

It's Christmastime...In the City!
My mom asked me this morning why I hadn’t posted since Friday. Sorry mom, I’ve been busy having fun.
I had my company holiday party on Friday. I might not have gone for rum, coke and dancing, but I still had fun. The party itself was at Catch Roof (from the same people who bring you Tenjune. Judge accordingly), and then we went to the Vinatta Project. I’m reading now on...

Tips For Surviving Holiday Eating (and Still...
This post is part of the Soy Simple campaign. Read my disclosure here.
So, today is my company holiday party. From 2-6 in the afternoon.
I’m the new girl (and I’m not dumb), so I will be all responsible…and stuff.
(Although this flowchart is currently circulating the office. We’re sort of considering the “rum and coke and dancing” option.)
So, how does someone who lost 50 pounds and...
Dress me.
What does one wear for their daytime (?) company holiday party here? When one is new to said company? I asked my boss and she said she was “probably wearing a dress.” THAT’S NO HELP?

Surf's Up!
Usually the former reporter in me writes about a fun event I went to within the next 24 hours. Otherwise it feels like old news to me, even though I’m not really breaking any news up in here.
(So I will never use the phrases: “breaking news” or “this just in” on my blog. I promise.)
So it’s driven me nuts that I haven’t had time to write about this...

Trainer in Your Pocket
(No, I haven’t figured out how to get my old trainer to come back from Hong Kong and hop into my pocket, but I’ll let you know if I do figure that one out.)
I won’t often be writing about my job and my clients on here, but this is a special case of worlds colliding. (Which has happened a lot lately.)
One of the accounts I’m working on is DailyBurn—a site that (until...

Not Making Excuses
Remember a few months ago I wrote about no excuses?
And then I started a new job.
And, well, it would be really really easy to make excuses right now about why I can’t work out.
It’s cold.
Getting used to working full-time again after not having worked in an office for months is pretty tiring.
It’s the holidays.
Although if I can find a reason to wear antlers outside of...

Come Fly With Me!
On Saturday afternoon, after having run the Jingle Bell Jog in the morning, I got talked into trying Flywheel with my friend Sara in the afternoon. I ended up accidentally leaving her at our high school reunion, so I felt like I couldn’t say no to her Saturday. Plus, I really wanted to try Flywheel!
I went on their website and booked a bike in the 4pm class with Chris T, who is a really...

Last year, I did the 9+1 program to qualify for the NYC Marathon. (Which I ran last month. It was amazing. Have I mentioned that? No? Well, it was.)
I should have been done with my ninth race last weekend, but I totally slept through it. Oops. I went to a friend’s housewarming party last night, but stuck to two drinks and was home by 11 so that I could be up and...

Drinking My Protein
This post is part of the Soy Simple campaign. Read my disclosure here.
While I generally try to save drinking my calories for wine, it’s not always possible to have a glass of wine after a workout or in the middle of the afternoon when I want a snack.
As I’ve said before, I stay away from dairy since my stomach hates it. So many healthy snacks involve cheese or yogurt, so I usually...

What to Buy the Runner in Your Life
There are people who say running is a cheap sport, that you just need a good pair of sneakers and a decent sports bra, if you’re a lady.
They’re clearly not addicted to gear like I am. While none of this stuff makes me faster, some of it makes things easier and all of it makes running even more enjoyable.
Below are my top picks for any runners on your holiday shopping list. Unless...

Worlds Colliding
My worlds have felt like they’re colliding a lot lately. Some of the accounts I’m working on at work are health and fitness-focused, so some of my work has involved research on bloggers and blogger events, and it’s been a ton of fun. But weird to be researching some people I know on a friendly basis for work reasons.
Last night, I descended a set of stairs into an alternate...

I’d been thinking about triathlons for a while before that, but a guest post from Katy on how to do a triathlon inexpensively finally convinced me. I didn’t want to spend a lot on a bike I might not use much when I could spend that money on beer or more running sneakers.
